How we work
The Cricket Academy (TCA) works to, as practically extensively as possible, promote and stimulate the development of cricket in Malawi.
Working in partnership with Malawi Cricket Union (MCU) we identify institutions and clubs where we conduct cricket clinics. These clinics are run by qualified coaches from The Cricket Academy, some of who are certified by the International Cricket Council (ICC). The objectives of these clinics is to help each institution & club run their own cricket program. We train the teachers/coaches to coach students/players and also help them put in place sound operating structures to run a cricket program. Initially the teachers/coaches will run their respective program under our coaches’ guidance.
There are 4 levels of cricket we work on:
1. Primary Schools
2. Secondary Schools
3. Colleges, Universities & Clubs
4. National Teams
At each level players are monitored and the most talented, dedicated and disciplined are selected to take part in high performance camps at the U15, U17, U19 and senior levels. These players are prepared and will compete to play for the national team at each respective age group.
Our programs also include training for umpires, scorers, curators, administrators and support staff, all of whom are very important to running an effective and sustainable cricket program.
"Our hunger is not for success. It is for excellence."
Where we work
Malawi Cricket Union & The Cricket Academy offices and facilities are based at St. Andrews International High School (SAIntS) in Blantyre, Malawi. We conduct all our high performance camps and national team training camps from here.
We have programs running in all major cities in Malawi (Blantyre, Lilongwe, Zomba & Mzuzu), and we also run programs in smaller towns across the country (Mulanje, Thyolo, Kasungu & lake shore areas).
